Dear friends and colleagues,

 

This is our monthly update about news and upcoming events at the Graduate School of East Asian Studies.

 

We are happy to announce the newly published book “Making China Modern: From the Great Qing to Xi Jinping” by GEAS Vice Director Klaus Mühlhahn. The book situates 21^st century China in the nation’s long history of creative adaptation and institutional change. It was published by Harvard University Press in January 2019. We would also like to welcome back Einstein Plus Fellow Gunter Schubert (Universität Tübingen) who will join us again in early February. During his stay, Professor Schubert will hold a lecture organised by the Institute of China Studies:
