The CERN Library [http://library.cern.ch <http://library.cern.ch/>] is searching for an dynamic and enthusiastic new colleague. We serve a scientific community of over 10'000 researchers from 85 countries,by offering specialized collections of journals, books, reports and standards. These collections are available as physical media and, increasingly, in electronic form. We also curate the CERN Institutional Repository, CDS [http://cds.cern.ch <http://cds.cern.ch/>], which comprises scientific manuscripts; an archive of CERN documents; educational and increasingly multimedia content. The CERN Library collaborates with other research centres to build INSPIRE [http://www.projecthepinspire.net <http://www.projecthepinspire.net/>], the next-generation digital library for High-Energy Physics; and it plays a leading role in promoting Open Access publishing through the SCOAP3 project [http://scoap3.org <http://scoap3.org/>].
The successful candidate will be fully integrated in the activities of our team, will report to the Head of Library Services and will initially take responsibility for: · leading the ingestion of new metadata in the library catalogue and selected collections within CDS and INSPIRE, managing their quality assurance and providing guidance and direction to cataloguers; · researching and proposing solutions for the continued optimisation of cataloguing workflows; · streamlining and innovating the acquisition processes, in particular for books and e-books; · overseeing the quality assurance of library services, participating to the supervision of staff and students/interns.
We require:· university education, preferably in a scientific discipline, and formal library qualifications; · in-depth knowledge of library services in a research or university library; · sound knowledge of relevant information resources, preferably within the field of physics; · proven ability for creative, innovative and analytical thinking, leading to the implementation of practical solutions; · flexibility to adapt to the new challenges of the evolving information environment; · ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team; · willingness to take on responsibilities and ability to take initiative, supervise staff and work independently; · excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate in both written and oral forms.
What we offer:· Contract duration: five years, with one year probation. Subject to certain conditions, an indefinite contract may be granted during this period. · Financial conditions: Competitive tax-free staff salaries are calculated individually and are based on experience and qualifications. Salaries are commensurate to the costs and standards of living in the Geneva region. · Leave: Staff members are entitled to 2.5 days paid leave per month, plus two weeks at Christmas and additional paid leave for some local holidays. · Benefits: Staff automatically join CERN's pension fund. Staff and their dependents are covered by CERN's health insurance scheme. Staff members are entitled to installation grant, family allowance, school allowance and child allowance.
