*** Apologies for
cross-posting*** In January 2012, COAR
submitted a brief in response to the White House Office of Science and
Technology Policy (OSTP) public consultation on Public Access to
Federally-Funded Research. The COAR position focused on demonstrating that
there is an expanding global network of repositories available to support open
access policies. The brief emphasized that Open Access is an international
movement with strong momentum across the world, and outlined the importance of
repository interoperability across institutions and borders. Other topics addressed in
the brief include: -
Evidence about the economic
benefits of providing open access to research outputs. -
The costs and benefits of
federally mandated Open Access policies. -
Specific recommendations about
the type and nature of Open Access policies to be implemented. The full text of the letter
is available here.
