Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,

von 17. bis 19. März 2026 veranstaltet das openCost-Projektteam die internationale Konferenz „openCost: Navigating Cost Transparency“ am Deutschen Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY in Hamburg, zu der wir Sie herzlich einladen.

Einblicke in das Programm

Im Fokus der Konferenz stehen Einblicke in die zweite openCost-Projektphase und der gemeinsame Austausch über Wege zu mehr Kostentransparenz im wissenschaftlichen Publikationswesen.

Dabei sollen erste Ergebnisse zur Entwicklung eines einrichtungsinternen Metadatenschemas zur Kostenerfassung sowie die Erweiterung des Austauschformats um weitere Publikationstypen (z. B. Bücher und Buchkapitel) und neue Kostenarten, etwa aus dem Bereich Diamond Open Access, vorgestellt und diskutiert werden. Zudem werden Anwendungsszenarien in der Elektronischen Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB) und in Repositorien präsentiert. Weiter stehen Fragen der technischen Umsetzung, Datenintegration und Prozessgestaltung im Mittelpunkt – mit besonderem Fokus auf der Weiterentwicklung des openCost-Standards, institutionellen Anwendungsfällen und der Vernetzung von Open-Science-Infrastrukturen zur Förderung von Kostentransparenz.

Das Programm wird neben Beiträgen aus dem Projektteam u. a. Beiträge von Cameron Neylon (COKI/Centre for Culture and Technology, Curtin University), Maxence Larrieu (Université Grenoble Alpes/TSOSI - Transparency to Sustain Open Science Infrastructure), Paula Clemente Vega (Open Library of Humanities), sowie dem Projekt SeDOA umfassen.

Ziel ist es, gemeinsam Impulse für die zweite Projektphase zu setzen, praxisnahe Perspektiven aus der Community zu bündeln und Raum für Vernetzung und Austausch zu schaffen.

Call for Posters: Einreichungen bis 30. November

Im Rahmen der Konferenz planen wir eine interaktive Postersession mit Kurzvorstellungen, in der Projekte, Initiativen und institutionelle Use Cases sichtbar gemacht werden sollen.

Wir freuen uns besonders über Posterbeiträge zu folgenden Themen:

·   Kostentransparenz im wissenschaftlichen Publikationswesen

·   Nachhaltige Finanzierung und Budgetierung von Open-Access-Infrastrukturen

·   Transparenz im Diamond Open Access

·   Interne Prozesse zur Bearbeitung von Transformationsverträgen

·   Vielfalt von Publikationsobjekten und deren Kostenerfassung

·   Technische und organisatorische Workflows im Umgang mit Publikationskosten

·   Open-Access-Projekte mit Bezug zu Kosten- und Budgetfragen

·   Publikationskosten als FAIRE Forschungsdaten

Wir freuen uns auf Ihre Postervorschläge als Abstract (max. 300 Wörter) über unser Konferenztool Indico. Die Konferenzsprache ist Englisch. Postereinreichungen sind noch bis zum 30. November 2025 möglich.

Dear sir or madam, dear colleagues,

From March 17 to 19, 2026, the openCost project team will host the international conference “openCost: Navigating Cost Transparency” at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY in Hamburg, to which we cordially invite you.

Insights into the program

The conference will focus on insights into the second phase of the openCost project and joint discussions on ways to achieve cost transparency in scientific publishing.

Initial results on the development of an internal metadata schema for cost recording and the expansion of the exchange format to include additional publication types (with a special focus on open access books) and new cost types, for example from the area of Diamond Open Access, will be presented and discussed. In addition, application scenarios in the Electronic Journal Library (EZB) and in repositories will be presented. The focus will also be on issues of technical implementation, data integration, and process design, with a particular emphasis on the further development of the openCost standard, institutional use cases, and the networking of open science infrastructures to promote cost transparency.

In addition to contributions from the project team, the program will include contributions from Cameron Neylon (COKI/Centre for Culture and Technology, Curtin University), Maxence Larrieu (Univesité Grenoble Alpes/TSOSI - Transparency to Sustain Open Science Infrastructure), Paula Clemente Vega (Open Library of Humanities), and the SeDOA project, among others.

The aim is to jointly set the agenda for the second phase of the project, to bring together practical perspectives from the community, and to create space for networking and exchange.

Call for posters: Submissions due by November 30

As part of the conference, we are planning an interactive poster session with short presentations to showcase projects, initiatives, and institutional use cases. We invite interested parties to submit proposals for posters for the conference. We particularly welcome contributions on the following topics:

• Cost transparency in scientific publishing
• Sustainable financing and budgeting of open access infrastructures
• Cost transparency in diamond open access
• Internal workflows for processing transformative agreements
• Diversity of publication objects and their cost recording
• Technical and organizational workflows in dealing with publication costs
• Open access projects related to cost and budget issues
• Publication costs as FAIR research data

We look forward to receiving your poster proposals in the form of abstracts (max. 300 words) via our conference tool Indico. The conference language is English. Poster submissions are open until November 30, 2025.
