Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,

von 17. bis 19. März 2026 veranstaltet das openCost-Projektteam die internationale Konferenz „openCost: Navigating Cost Transparency“ am Deutschen Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY in Hamburg, zu der wir Sie noch einmal herzlich einladen möchten.

Wenn Sie an der openCost Konferenz teilnehmen wollen, registrieren Sie sich bitte über folgenden Link: https://indico.desy.de/event/50077/registrations/7324/. Die Anmeldefrist wurde bis 8. März 2026 verlängert.

Im Mittelpunkt der Konferenz stehen Einblicke in die zweite openCost-Projektphase sowie der Austausch über Wege zu mehr Kostentransparenz im wissenschaftlichen Publikationswesen. Diskutiert werden unter anderem die Weiterentwicklung des openCost-Standards, institutionelle Anwendungsfälle, Fragen der technischen Umsetzung und Datenintegration sowie Anwendungsszenarien in der Elektronischen Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB) und in Repositorien. Ziel ist es, gemeinsam Impulse für die zweite Projektphase zu setzen, praxisnahe Perspektiven aus der Community zu bündeln und Raum für Vernetzung und Austausch zu schaffen.

Neben Beiträgen aus dem Projektteam umfasst das Programm u. a. Beiträge von SciPost, TSOSI – Transparency to Sustain Open Science Infrastructure, SeDOA, SCOAP3 und JQuant. Zudem freuen wir uns besonders, die Keynote von Dr. Angela Holzer (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) anzukündigen: „Why does the DFG support the development of information budgets and standardized cost data?“.

From March 17 to 19, 2026, the openCost project team will host the international conference “openCost: Navigating Cost Transparency” at the German Electron Synchrotron DESY in Hamburg, to which we would like to cordially invite you once again.

The conference will focus on insights into the second phase of the openCost project and discussions on ways to achieve greater cost transparency in scientific publishing. Topics to be discussed include the further development of the openCost standard, institutional use cases, questions of technical implementation and data integration, and application scenarios in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) and in repositories. The aim is to jointly set the agenda for the second phase of the project, to pool practical perspectives from the community, and to create space for networking and exchange.

In addition to contributions from the project team, the program includes presentations from SciPost, TSOSI – Transparency to Sustain Open Science Infrastructure, SeDOA, SCOAP3, and JQuant. We are also particularly pleased to announce the keynote speech by Dr. Angela Holzer (German Research Foundation): „Why does the DFG support the development of information budgets and standardized cost data?“.
