[IP-OA_Forum] oa.talk on January 28, 2026: "Answers to the increasingly concentrated use of research results as training data for artificial intelligence"

Dear members of the Open Science community,

Happy New Year from all of us at open-access.network 3! As our project has been extended, we are pleased to continue our ‘Open-Access-Talk” series (oa.talk). We cordially invite you to the first oa.talk of the new project phase:

Topic: Answers to the increasingly concentrated use of research results as training data for artificial intelligence

Date: January 28, 2026

Time: 10:30-11:30

Place: Online (Webex)

In this webinar, we will focus on the increasingly important role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the open access transformation. As open access research content can be used to train large language models (LLMs), uncertainties and concerns regarding the use of intellectual property are inevitable. However, we do not believe that a return to closed-access publishing is a better option.

We are pleased to invite Dr. Jonas Mirbeth (University of Ulm) to share his insights into this topic, with special attention to building scalable open research infrastructures in which rights to research outputs remain in the hands of researchers.

Dr. Jonas Mirbeth is the team leader for publication management and Open Access Officer at the University of Ulm.

We welcome all members of the scientific community who have interests or concerns regarding the growing presence of AI in Open Science practices. All other interested parties are also welcome to attend.

The oa.talk will be held in English. Prior registration is not required. Further information can be found on the announcement page: https://open-access.network/fortbilden/open-access-talk/oatalk-am-28-januar-2026

We would appreciate it if you would forward this invitation. We look forward to your participation!

Best regards,
