[JFKI-News] The Legacy of W.E.B. Du Bois
Dear Colleagues,
I would like to invite you to an event commemorating W.E.B. Du Bois’
150th birthday.
In the years 1892-1894, W.E.B. Du Bois studied at what is now
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (then Friedrich-Wilhelm-Universität).
Although the lack of financial resources did not allow him to complete
his doctorate here, his stay in Berlin and his studies with German
economists, sociologists and historians had a strong impact on his work.
In 1958, Humboldt-Universität awarded him an honorary doctorate.
Our event will take place at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on October
31. Starting at 5:30 p.m., we will have presentations by students from
Albany State University, Georgia, on Du Bois and Historically Black
Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Afterwards (7:00 p.m.), there will be
readings from and reflections on Du Bois’ work by different scholars,
followed by a reception.
I hope that you are interested and find the time to join us. I would
appreciate it, if you could also advertise the event in your seminars
and lectures, because especially the first part of the event might be
interesting for students who would like to engage in a discussion with
students from the U.S.
Here is the time and location of the event:
October 31, 2018, 5:30 PM / 7:00 PM
