Seit dem Sturm auf das amerikanische Kapitol gibt es kaum noch Zweifel daran, dass die liberale Demokratie unter Beschuss geraten ist. Vor diesem Hintergrund befasst sich das international besetzte Podium mit den »autokratischen Gespenstern«, die gegenwärtig umgehen, aber auch mit den »demokratischen Ausblicken« (Walt Whitman), die sich etwa in Belarus auftun. Die Veranstaltung ist Auftakt eines neuen Forschungsschwerpunktes am Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften »Democratic Vistas. Reflections on the Atlantic World«. – Weitere Informationen zur Diskussion, den Diskussionsteilnehmer*innen und zum neuen Forschungsschwerpunkt können Sie der angehängten Einladung und der Webpage des Kollegs entnehmen.

Since the storming of the U.S. Capitol, there no longer can be any doubt that liberal democracy in the United States is severely threatened. With the oldest modern democracy destabilized, will authoritarianism around the world receive a further boost? The international panel will weigh the »autocratic specters« haunting the present moment against the »democratic vistas« (Walt Whitman) that are simultaneously opening up in Belarus and elsewhere. The event launches a new research focus at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften titled »Democratic Vistas. Reflections on the Atlantic World.«
