Dear members of the JFKI, There is only a week to go until the 20th Annual Conference of the Emerging Scholars Forum of the Association for Canadian Studies in German-Speaking Countries takes place! From Indigenous nations and their quest for the recognition of treaty rights to Quebec nationalism to the Prairie Provinces’ current rejection of Canadian federalism, the concept of sovereignty, or perhaps sovereignties,
continues to dominate the Canadian political and cultural landscape. "Contested Canada: Navigating Past, Present and Future Sovereignties" will explore those questions of sovereignty which are at the core of the study of Canada. You are warmly invited to join us for the conference, which kicks off at
12:00 on June 29 in room 201, and will continue June 30 at 9:00, also in room 201. The keynote, titled –
“As Long as the Sun Shines”: Treaty-Making and Sovereignty in Indigenous Ontario
will be delivered by Prof. Manuel Menrath from PH Luzern, and he will be joined remotely by Mike Metatawabin from the Fort Albany First Nation. This keynote will take place on
June 30 at 14:00, in room 319. The full schedule for the conference is attached to this message, and a book of abstracts can be found here.
Please note that due to space constraints, the Québec delegation workshop is limited to those who are presenting a paper, but you are welcome to join any other part of the conference!
