Europaeum online seminar next Tuesday

‘Defending Europe Now: What is to be done?’

Tuesday 29 April 2025, 18.00 - 19.40 hours CET / 5.00 - 6.40 pm UK time.

 

The second Europaeum online alumni seminar will explore the urgent need for Europe to develop a credible defence and security capability that can operate independently of the United States, if need be, as the global order is dramatically redefined by US President Donald Trump. Speakers will include Veronica Anghel, European University Institute; Daniel Fiott, Brussels School of Governance; ex-EUIIS; Jamie Shea, ex-NATO; Exeter University; Lora Anne Viola,Freie Universität Berlin and Klaus Welle, former Secretary General of European Parliament.

 

Students and staff at our member universities, and alumni and friends of the Europaeum are welcome to attend.

Karel Schwarzenberg memorial event

Online and at Charles University in Prague

Tuesday 13 May 2025, 14.30 - 17.00 hours CET / 1.30 - 4.00 pm UK time.

 

The Europaeum and Charles University are organising a special hybrid event to honour the life and work of Karel Schwarzenberg, the Czech democracy campaigner and foreign minister who served as a Europaeum Trustee for many years.

 

The sub-theme of the meeting will be the Future of Democracy in Europe today.

 

Among those speaking in person or online will be Barbara Tóth, Michael Žantovský, Timothy Garton Ash, Petra Guasti, Jakub Franěk and Jacques Rupnik. A live audience on-site at Charles University in Prague will be joined by a wider group of participants online.

 

Online participants will be able to watch the stream online through this MS Teams’ link.
