[JFKI-News] Invitation to JFKI Lecture Series "Loss, Lost, Losing It: America in Times of Transformation"

Dear all,

We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming lecture series exploring the profound transformations currently taking place in the United States.

Lecture Series: Loss, Lost, Losing It: America in Times of Transformation

When: Wednesdays, 4:00–6:00 pm
Where: Hörsaal A, Henry-Ford-Bau

The United States is experiencing profound changes across its social, political, economic, and cultural landscape. From the erosion of democratic institutions and growing political polarization to systemic racial injustice, economic instability, and shifting global commitments, these developments raise fundamental questions about the country's present and future.

The lecture series takes “loss” as a central concept for understanding these transformations. Loss can take many forms, including the destruction of the environment, the erosion of social trust, declining equality, and the disappearance of shared political norms. At the same time, loss can inspire political action and become a driving force for social and cultural change.

Bringing together experts from literature, cultural studies, sociology, political science, history, and law, the series offers interdisciplinary perspectives on how the concept of loss can help us make sense of contemporary America.

We warmly invite you to join us for these lectures and the discussions they will inspire.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Best regards,

Stefanie Müller and Lora Anne Viola
