At least, it doesn't sound unfamiliar to me. I think the reason is simply that standard MDs were originally not designed to be used for HiMD storage and thus they don't provide extra sectors on the disk to store the disk ID. The disk ID is supposed to be unique and HiMD were designed with that concept in mind, so that's why their IDs never change. Adrian
