could you apply the patch to the current git master and compile the
code for Windows so I can have a look at the binary to get an
impression how the code on Windows works now? I don't have a build
environment for Qt on Windows at hand at the moment so it would be
nice if you could compile it for me.

@Michael:

Do you think we should create a git branch "windows" to collect the
changes Thomas made or do you think this might increase the risk that
the versions for different platforms diverge too much?
