I'm e-mailing this mailing list to see if anyone has any thoughts on what might be going wrong and what I could try in order to be able to transfer MP3 files to disc successfully. The command I'm running with the MZ-RH1 mounted is of the following form: himdcli /media/wbm/disk writemp3 file.mp3 I have attempted to transfer MP3 files of various sizes and sample rates to the device. Below is a record of a few different file transfers. After each file transfer, I show the file listing on the HiMD disc in order to illustrate that data is being transferred. After each transfer attempt, I attempt to play the track, but the device cannot detect any tracks. If any of you have any thoughts on how I could get this working, I'd appreciate it! Many thanks Will Breaden Madden w.bm@cern.ch The records of transfer attempts are as follows: # transfer of file of size 1359935 bytes at 32 kbps sample rate After format, the disc file listing was as follows: total 864 drwx------ 2 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 . drwx------ 3 wbm wbm 16384 Jan 1 1970 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 00010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 _0010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 0 Jan 1 2006 ATDATA02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 _MDHIFI.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX02.HMA The file transfer command was as follows: himdcli /media/wbm/disk writemp3 file_size_1359935_bytes_sample_rate_32_kbps.mp3 After file transfer, the disc file listing was as follows: total 2528 drwx------ 2 wbm wbm 32768 Nov 13 11:22 . drwx------ 3 wbm wbm 16384 Jan 1 1970 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 00010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 _0010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 1359872 Nov 13 11:22 ATDATA02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 _MDHIFI.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 _RKIDX00.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Nov 13 11:22 TRKIDX01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX02.HMA # transfer of file of size 340128 bytes at 8 kbps sample rate After format, the disc file listing was as follows: total 864 drwx------ 2 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 . drwx------ 3 wbm wbm 16384 Jan 1 1970 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 00010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 _0010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 0 Jan 1 2006 ATDATA02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 _MDHIFI.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX02.HMA The file transfer command was as follows: himdcli /media/wbm/disk writemp3 file_size_340128_bytes_sample_rate_8_kbps.mp3 After file transfer, the disc file listing was as follows: total 1504 drwx------ 2 wbm wbm 32768 Nov 13 11:24 . drwx------ 3 wbm wbm 16384 Jan 1 1970 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 00010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 _0010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Nov 13 11:24 ATDATA02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 _MDHIFI.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 _RKIDX00.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Nov 13 11:24 TRKIDX01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX02.HMA # transfer of file of size 5439737 bytes at 44.1 kbps sample rate After format, the disc file listing was as follows: total 864 drwx------ 2 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 . drwx------ 3 wbm wbm 16384 Jan 1 1970 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 00010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 _0010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 0 Jan 1 2006 ATDATA02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 _MDHIFI.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX02.HMA The file transfer command was as follows: himdcli /media/wbm/disk writemp3 file_size_5439737_bytes_sample_rate_44.1_kbps.mp3 After file transfer, the disc file listing was as follows: total 6528 drwx------ 2 wbm wbm 32768 Nov 13 11:27 . drwx------ 3 wbm wbm 16384 Jan 1 1970 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 00010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 172 Jan 1 2006 _0010012.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 5455872 Nov 13 11:27 ATDATA02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 MCLIST02.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 32768 Jan 1 2006 _MDHIFI.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 _RKIDX00.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Nov 13 11:27 TRKIDX01.HMA -rw-r--r-- 1 wbm wbm 327680 Jan 1 2006 TRKIDX02.HMA From glaubitz@physik.fu-berlin.de Sat Nov 14 11:26:31 2015 Received: from outpost1.zedat.fu-berlin.de ([130.133.4.66]) by list1.zedat.fu-berlin.de (Exim 4.85) for linux-minidisc@lists.fu-berlin.de with esmtp (envelope-from ) id <1ZxY2R-0042pE-FW>; And can you list the files that were transferred with 'himdcli' or 'qhimdtransfer'. The listing of the directory structure is not really helpful when trying to debug the problem. > If any of you have any thoughts on how I could get this working, I'd > appreciate it! What's the output of himdcli /media/wbm/disk tracks after transferring the first file? Also, can you try using a more common bitrate? The bitrates you were using are rather unusual. I see simply the same message that I would see after formatting: "NO TRACK" >And can you list the files that were transferred with 'himdcli' or 'qhimdtransfer'. The listing of the directory structure is not really helpful when trying to debug the problem. Sure (the goal of the file listings was to show that approximately the correct amount of data was getting transferred). After formatting the disc and transferring either a single file or multiple files, there is no track listing returned when using `himdcli /media/wbm/disk tracks`. However, when I make a recording with the device itself, the recording does show up in the track listing: 1: 0:20 LPCM Unknown artist:Unknown title (Unknown album 0) [uploadable] >Also, can you try using a more common bitrate? The bitrates you were using are rather unusual. Common bitrates are 128, 256 or 384 kbs. Yes, I tried a few more standard ones as you suggested. The result is the same. Are there other things I could try that would be of assistance or are there other details that would be helpful? Thanks very much for your help on this.
