Liebe Studierende,

im Namen meiner lieben Kollegin Elena Tripaldi möchte ich folgende Einladungsmail zur einer Veranstaltung der X-Student Research Group der BUA verteilen.

herzlich, tobias wieland

Dear students,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the X-Student Research Group I will be coordinating next semester at FU Berlin (https://www.fu-berlin.de/vv/de/lv/885598?m=430482&pc=705997&sm=814672).

The X-Student Research Group will be dedicated to answering the question: What is the right ontology of the Anthropocene?

The question is currently at the center of the philosophical and critical debate on ecology, where it is being shown that ontological biases with respect to what nature is, and how it functions, influence past and current understandings of the relationship of humans to their environment. Through in-depth discussion of three of the main currently defended “ontologies of the Anthropocene'' (Arne Ness’ “Deep Ecology”; Timothy Morton’s “Dark Ecology”; Rosi Braidotti and Jane Bennett’s feminist materialist versions of monism), we will aim at defining a set of minimal criteria an ontology of nature needs to satisfy to promote positive human-non-human interactions.

The outcomes of this research will be presented in a five-episode podcast we will record together and, possibly, in a presentation (held by all or some of you, depending on your preference) at the Berlin Conference for Student Research (Humboldt University, October 2nd, 2024).

We will discuss and define the modalities for the realization of the podcast and the presentation at the Berlin Conference for Student Research together. If you have an interest in the course but already know you do not want to be a speaker for the podcast or conference, please do not refrain from partaking and know there will be plenty to do that does not require public speaking and that the main goal of the course will remain the conducting of collaborative research.

The course is open to all interested advanced BA and MA students. It will be my priority to create a respectful environment, in which differences in background will be handled constructively and where interdisciplinarity is regarded as a strength. Previous experience with podcast registration and mixing are not required.

If you are curious, you are warmly invited to come to our first meeting on April 15th, 18.00-20.00 in the Rostlaube JK 29/118 at the FU Berlin. In this meeting, we will get to know each other, discuss the topics and modalities of the course, as well as address all your questions. For any questions, you can also contact me beforehand at: elena.tripaldi@studenti.unipd.it or elena.tripaldi.eyp@gmail.com

If you cannot attend the first meeting but are interested in the course, please contact me via email before April 15th, so that I can register you to the course.
