The American Association of Philosophy Teacher (AAPT)

2024 Seminar on Teaching and Learning in Philosophy

“To Improve the Quality of Instruction in Philosophy at All Levels”

Location:              Otterbein University, Westerville, Ohio
Date:                     July 24–28, 2024
Eligibility:             Current Graduate Students or Recent (2022 forward) PhDs
Application Deadline:  May 13, 2024
TO APPLY CLICK HERE

In this national teacher training for philosophers, seminar participants will learn principles that strengthen their pedagogical choice-making. Participants will apply the principles of integrated course design to their specific teaching contexts to select challenging and transformative learning goals, create innovated learning activities, motivate students, and use traditional and non-traditional methods of assessment. By enhancing the learner-centeredness of their thinking and engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning, participants will become better able to help their students learn effectively. The friendships and collegial relationships built here can last a lifetime.

Attendance
Participants are required to attend all morning face-to-face sessions July 25-28. A voluntary social gathering will take place on the evening of July 24.

Fees & Waivers

The seminar is held in the morning in conjunction with the AAPT’s Biennial Conference. Participants are encouraged to attend regular AAPT Conference sessions in the afternoons and evenings.
• The registration fee for the AAPT conference and the AAPT membership fee are waived for seminar participants.
• The cost of meals and lodging, approximately $350, and travel expenses are the responsibility of participants. However . . .
• The American Association of Philosophy Teachers and the Teaching Philosophy Association generously provide a grant of $300 for each participant to help offset expenses. (In short, once you get to Otterbein, it’s very close to free.)
