CALL FOR PROPOSALS: SPARC DIGITAL REPOSITORIES MEETING – INNOVATION FAIR
Washington, DC – Proposals are now being invited to the SPARC 2010
Digital Repositories Meeting Innovation Fair, where new technologies
and strategies are showcased in engaging, informative rapid-fire
presentations. SPARC, in partnership with SPARC Europe and SPARC
Japan/National Institute of Informatics, is hosting the next
installment of this popular meeting on November 8 & 9, 2010 at the
Renaissance Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.
The North American SPARC meeting is a unique forum for diverse
stakeholders – librarians, technologists, research producers, research
funders, publishers and commercial interests – to come together and
consider how best to leverage the practices and policies that have
proven successful in advancing repositories to date, and to explore
new challenges.
The Innovation Fair is an event inspired by the Open Repositories
Meeting Minute Madness that invites participants to present, in no
more than two minutes, innovative or creative approaches to: use of
repository content, discovery of research outputs, value-added
services, and repository promotion. Diatomscapes, personal
repositories, depositor reluctance, Amazon.com <http://Amazon.com>,
and theses were a few of the themes champions from four countries
introduced at the 2008 fair.
For details and to submit a proposal to the 2010 Innovation Fair,
visit http://www.arl.org/sparc/meetings/dr10. Submissions must be
received no later than August 15.
The SPARC 2010 Digital Repositories Meeting is supported by major
contributions from Microsoft (Meeting Sponsor), Berkeley Electronic
Press (Luncheon Sponsor), the University of Alberta, and by additional
contributions from a number of Supporting Organizations.
The SPARC digital repositories meetings have played an integral part
in advancing the potential of repositories to expand the dissemination
of scholarship and transform scholarly communication. First held in
2004, the meeting is regularly hosted in the UK or Europe, Japan, and
North America, draws hundreds of participants from around the globe,
and has helped set the stage for key developments over the past six years.
For more information about the meeting program, program committee,
registration, accommodation, and sponsorship opportunities, visit the
conference Web site at http://www.arl.org/sparc/meetings/dr10.
