PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Humanities Directory to launch as sister ‘gold’ OA publisher to Social Sciences Directory The ‘gold’ open access online publishing company Social Sciences Directory has taken an important step forward by announcing the launch of a sister publishing website, Humanities Directory. The intention is to provide scholars and students in the arts & humanities with the same benefits as in other disciplines. Like Social Sciences Directory, Humanities Directory will charge the academic GBP100/USD150 to cover editorial, peer review and production management costs, or alternatively institutional memberships that will allow unlimited submissions for a twelve month period. The content will then be made freely available to view. As well as being much cheaper, it will be quicker to publish and allow authors to retain ownership of copyright. Dan Scott, founder and director of Social Sciences Directory Limited, commented: “The UK government mandate to adopt the Finch Report’s recommendation on open access is a giant leap forward for academics and publishers. We were ahead of the curve when we launched Social Sciences Directory four months ago and wish to widen participation in the areas of arts & humanities. We recognise that it is a step change in behaviour and funding, and wish to work closely with academics and librarians to bring effective benefits for them and for taxpayers. Our intention is to finalise the editorial board and begin receiving submissions in time to launch the first Issue at the start of the new academic year.” Dr Alison Bancroft, editor-in-chief of Humanities Directory commented: “The aspirations and vision of Humanities Directory are close to my own ideals on open access content and understanding of user behaviour. The idea of a dynamic publication providing more access to scholarly research global, making full use of technologies and facilitating inter-disciplinary research is great. I am excited at having the opportunity to keep contributing my energy and passion to those ideals.” ENDS 30.07.12 NOTE TO EDITORS: Social Sciences Directory and Humanities Directory are online searchable databases of primary peer-reviewed academic research and other content such as presentations, interviews and news reports, as well as providing discussion forums through social media, including blogs, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
