The World Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) and euroCRIS are pleased to announce their recently established strategic partnership. As a first step, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed at the euroCRIS members meeting in Madrid/Spain on November 6, 2012. The partnership will be based on the mutual understanding of the importance of Open Access to research results and the need for appropriate mechanisms for ensuring this. Specific attention will be paid to the domain of interoperability between different systems such as OA repositories and CRIS to ensure appropriate management of research results. Therefore, an exchange and joint work will be set up between euroCRIS’s task group on Institutional Repositories and COAR’s working group on interoperability.
Keith Jeffery, President of euroCRIS, notes: “This collaboration is a great opportunity to develop further our network of expertise and strengthen the common goal of building up an architecture of interoperation.” Alicia Lopez Medina, Executive Director of COAR, adds: “We are looking forward to close beneficial relationships with our colleagues from the CRIS community. This will foster our activities working on a roadmap for interoperability to support the global visibility of research outputs through networks of Open Access repositories linked with CERIF-CRIS systems.”
