Dear colleagues, The HIRMEOS <http://www.hirmeos.eu/> project (High Integration of Research Monographs in the European Open Science infrastructure) organizes a webinar on Monday, June 24, 2019, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM (CEST). The webinar is aimed at presenting the peer-review certification service developed for open access monographs <https://t.co/mcSs0cEoIC>. Participation in the online webinar is free, only registration is required via Eventbrite (HERE<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2nd-hirmeos-webinar-a-peer-review-certification-system-for-open-access-books-tickets-63331253484?aff=eivtefrnd>). --------- 2nd HIRMEOS Webinar: A Peer-review Certification System for Open Access Books Peer-review has a critical importance in scholarly communication, but both its practices and understanding exhibit a great deal of opacity. This is especially true for the peer review processes concerning open access monographs. The HIRMEOS Open Book Peer-Review Certification service is a response to the increasing need for transparency and a better understanding of book peer review processes. The certification system, developed in collaboration with the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB), provides a convenient way to reassure authors and evaluation agencies about the scientific quality of Open Access books. In the webinar, we are going to introduce this service to different communities by bringing together the perspectives of scholars, publishers, developers and librarians. It will be showcased how the service aims to open the black box of peer review by: Identifying several characteristics of peer review as they specifically pertain to Open Access books, Creating standard definitions of the various ways in which book peer reviews are conducted, and Informing readers about the nature of review a published work has undergone. Speakers: Eelco Ferwerda (DOAB, OAPEN), Pierre Mounier (OPERAS), Samuel Moore (King's College London) and Isabella Meinecke (Hamburg University Press). Chairs: Andrea Bertino (HIRMEOS, DARIAH-DE), Erzsébet Tóth-Czifra (DARIAH-EU). Participation in the online webinar is free, only registration is required via Eventbrite (HERE<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2nd-hirmeos-webinar-a-peer-review-certification-system-for-open-access-books-tickets-63331253484?aff=eivtefrnd>).
