  • Subject: [IP-OA_Forum] WG: [COAR Vocabularies] New version of the Resource Type Vocabulary now available

Mappings

In Deutschland findet das COAR Resource Type Vokabular Anwendung u.a. im „Gemeinsamen Vokabular für Publikations- und Dokumenttypen“, https://doi.org/10.18452/24147.2, im DINI-Zertifikat, https://dini.de/dienste-projekte/dini-zertifikat , im openCost Metadatenschema , https://github.com/opencost-de/opencost/tree/main/doc .

Viele Grüße

Jochen Schirrwagen

Betreff: [COAR Vocabularies] New version of the Resource Type Vocabulary now available

Dear COAR members and partners,

We are very pleased to announce the publication of the COAR Resource Type Controlled Vocabulary, Version 3.2.

The vocabulary now contains 105 terms that represent the wide variety of scholarly resources that are being deposited, managed, and made available through repositories around the world. Each concept is accompanied by a definition and is related to other concepts in the vocabulary, as well as linked to similar concepts in third-party vocabularies. Thanks to the efforts of the COAR’s international membership, the vocabulary is now available in 25 languages, offering even greater value to the global open science ecosystem. This is an excellent illustration of the COAR community’s strong commitment to multilingualism in scholarly communications.

This vocabulary enhances interoperability across the repository network and the entire scholarly ecosystem because it ensures that everyone is “using the same word to mean the same thing”. It contributes to a FAIR environment (finable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) bringing greater coherence for initiatives like the EOSC, and indexing and discovery services such as LA Referencia, OpenAlex, and OpenAIRE.

We are extremely grateful for the considerable contributions from the COAR Controlled Vocabulary Editorial Board and the volunteers who provided translations. Updating this extensive vocabulary is a lengthy and highly collaborative process whereby our contributors propose and discuss many new concepts and eventually translate them into local languages. It is only possible because of the deep and active engagement of our community members. Thank you again to everyone who participated, especially Isabel Bernal, chair of the Editorial Board and Ellen Ramsey from COAR!

The vocabulary is openly available for everyone and can be integrated into repositories (and other research infrastructures) allowing creators, for example, to choose their resource type from a drop down menu when they are depositing into the repository.

The COAR Resource Type Vocabulary, Version 3.2 is available here

More information about the changes introduced in Version 3.2 is available in this blog post

As always, if you have questions, feel free to get in touch!

Best, Kathleen
