[IP-OA_Forum] Latest OASPA data shows dramatic growth in OA articles from past decades is plateauing

Each year, OASPA compiles a dataset of open access publishing output and openly shares the data. We are delighted to once again have worked with Delta Think who have helped us by taking on the analysis, structuring and presentation of the data we most recently collected. 

This blog post published today highlights our findings which showed that growth in the volume of publications from OASPA members in 2024 slowed further compared with previous years, and is significantly lower than the long term average. As we saw last year, there is a drop in total output across fully OA journals, although hybrid OA content continues to show stronger growth and makes up the shortfall.

Please feel free to use and share the data. This post is a volumetric analysis about the quantity of open access journal outputs, and we know this is not the whole story in open access publishing.
