Betreff: Lecture Series: Talk by Heike Paul (FAU Erlangen) on December 10, 2025

Dear colleagues and students,

We invite you to next week’s session in our lecture series Loss in the Land of Plenty: Understanding American Crisis, Decline, and Paths to Renewal:

On December 10, Heike Paul will give a talk on “Lost Cause Sentimentalism and the Rise of Right-Wing Populism.”

Heike Paul is a professor of American Studies at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, where she is also the spokesperson of the Global Sentimentality Project. She is a recipient of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Preis and the author of Amerikanischer Staatsbürgersentimentalismus: Zur Lage der politischen Kultur der USA (2021). More recently, she co-edited a collection of essays titled Sentimental State(s): Affective Politics of Order and Belonging (with Sarah Pritz).

As always the talk will take place at Arnimallee 22, from 16:15 to 17:45.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Best,

Lora Anne Viola and Stefanie Müller
