Dear Students, Colleagues and Friends of Art History of Africa at Freie Universität Berlin

We are very happy to announce the program for summer 2023 for our Research Colloquium for the Arts of Africa. We cordially invite you to join our Tuesday-sessions, that will take place online via Webex or in room A 320 at Koserstr. 20 in Berlin-Dahlem.

The colloquium invites researchers, artists, curators, and activists to present different critical approaches to cross-cultural knowledge transfer in the arts at this very moment in history to our student body and teaching staff. The colloquium is an (online) forum to debate current research and work in progress that is sensitive to hegemony and power relations in artistic and academic networks.

The first session will take place online next Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 18:15-19:45.
There, we look forward to welcome Tessa Mars. The Haitian artist uses Paintings and Collage as media to counteract a colonial oblivion of history. Her presentation to the Haitian Revolution of 1804 will show how transatlantic History in the sense of Michel-Rolph Trouillot will not only be thought at universities. We will get to know an important decolonial perspective on art, historiography and exhibition work.
