This started happening after I had unsuccessfully tried to rename a folder in SonicStage (the recorder took forever, wouldn't stop displaying "Access", and finally I got an "Access Error"). You could try to create an image file of the corrupted HiMD with a software like WinImage [1] and then try attempt to recover the tracks on the HiMD (working on an image copy avoids further damage to the medium during attempted recovery) using QHiMDTransfer [2]. If creating an image from the medium fails, it will be very difficult to recover any tracks since we have no means to access any data on the medium if the Walkman bails out when trying to read the medium. Can you actually still see the contents of the HiMD in your file manager? There should be a folder called "HMDHIFI" containing several files. If you can still list these, chances are you will be able to recover at least some of the tracks.
