There is no such thing as a "true SP *transfer*". The transfer itself is
not in SP encoded form. But I expect you mean: "A transfer that results
in a track has the same quality as if recorded from a digital source by
the MD recorder", it is indeed the case.

This is *only* applicable to NetMD (or Hi-MD devices operating in NetMD
mode). Hi-MD is unable to store ATRAC SP encoded tracks at all. Every
NetMD capable recorder (with or without Hi-MD ability) is able to
receive raw PCM over USB and encode it on-the-fly to SP and write it to
a NetMD formatted medium.
